“The latest employment figures are the best that South Australia has ever seen” says Mike Rann, South Australian Premier.
In March the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by 0.1 per cent, to 4.6 per cent.
Opposition leader Martin Hamilton-Smith says South Australia’s rate is the highest of all mainland states.
“It’s a familiar story, yes there’s been news, but it’s the same news we’ve had for six years, and that is that things are better in every other state than they seem to be here,” he said.
But Mr Rann has seized on other figures that he says shows the state is doing well.
“We’ve got the lowest unemployment ever recorded in South Australia’s history, highest number of people in jobs ever recorded, and the highest number of people ever recorded in full time jobs,” he said.
“So these are the best employment figures South Australia has ever seen since the statistics started.”
