Two loaded coal trains are currently stranded in QLD en route to ports at Dalrymple Bay and Hay point after two other trains derailed early this morning, damaging 1.5 kilometres of overhead wires, track and supporting masts.
In the first incident, an empty coal train left the track on the southern leg of the Gregory branch line at Harrow Creek shortly before 1am AEST.
Another train derailed at a depot near Sarina and there have been no injuries in either incident.
On Wednesday afternoon three wagons damaged track, points, overhead wire and droppers after it derailed at QLD Rail’s Jilalan rail yard.
The derailments will see between 20 and 30 freight services delayed, impacting mines at Saraji, Norwich Park, Gregory, German Creek, Oaky Creek and Foxleigh.
In each of these sites, clean up is expected to take several days.
QLD Rail Coal North  General Manager Warren Phillips said “There are five coal mines feeding into the Port of Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay.  We are looking to see what we can do for those mines..to be able to divert coal to other ports”.
