Fair Trading Minister Linda Burney has reported an overwhelming number of firms have shown interest in purchasing the collapsed NSW builder Beechwood Homes.
Beechwood left about 300 families with unfinished homes and many subcontractors out of work when they moved into voluntary administration last month.
Linda Burney says the receiver, Deloitte, had given an assurance it was fast-tracking the sale of Beechwood, but the process had been slowed down by greater than expected level of interest.
“I want to reassure people that rectifying the situation will take a bit more time but it will get sorted,” Burney said.
“I am advised that there was a greater level of interest in buying the Beechwood businesses.”
“This is encouraging for not only homeowners, but also the many employees and trade contractors who work for the companies.”
Beechwood clients can expect to receive letters from Fair Trading and Deloitte with an update on the process of the sale.
Burney said Deloitte had advised her that work was about to restart on between 15-20 homes which were almost completed.
