Queensland will get more than $500 million as part of a national deal on the Murray-Darling Basin says Premier Anna Bligh.

Ms Bligh was in Sydney yesterday for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting.

She says the $510 million will be used to buy back water licences and improve water efficiency.

Ms Bligh says the states and territories also agreed yesterday to a national child protection framework so agencies can better share information.

“Most encouragingly the Commonwealth accepted that one of the most important areas of information sharing comes from the Commonwealth end through Centrelink,” she said.

“Often with transient vulnerable families it is Centrelink that is most likely to know where they’ve moved to and if they were in a position to better liaise with state agencies including police, we may well see much better outcomes for children.”
