The State Government has called on the Opposition Leader Colin Barnett to name the ports it would ship uranium from if it wins Government.
Yesterday Mr Barnett said there was no need for nuclear power in Western Australia for at least 50 years and yet indicated his support for uranium mining.
Meanwhile, the Premier Alan Carpenter has maintained the state’s ban on uranium mining saying it will not be lifted while he remains in Government.
The Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan says Mr Barnett needs to clarify exactly how he plans to export uranium.
“Mr Barnett has said in the past that he could see up to eleven uranium mines operating in Western Australia within the decade,” she said.
“Of course then these will need to be exported some of our, particularly our regional ports and I think it’s important that people understand which communities may now be exposed. “
