Septimus - Melbourne Cup Betting

Septimus, at age five is a truly astounding horse. He is the son of Sadler’s Wells from mare Caladira. This magical cross is proving to be the most successful ever from recently retired Sadler’s Wells. Sadler’s Wells has seen a number of distance champions such as Ebadiyla, High Chaparral, Islington, Milan, Quarter Moon, Yesterday and more.

The brother of Septimus, Men Of Destiny, is an specifically trained hurdling campaign. From his twelve starts, he has only competed once at Melbourne Cup distance. Normally he travels much further. This gives reason to why Septimus is so short on the tote.

Septimus began racing at a young age, proving he was capable to compete over seven furlongs and a mile. He won on debut and then again at the Group Two Beresford Stakes at The Curragh. Ironically, he was excused for his defeat by three lengths in the Group One Racing Post Trophy as the track was heavy going. However, he has optimised his performance, and now has a preference to a heavy track, much like Sadler’s Wells.

As a Derby prospect, Septimus showcased his relentless stamina and newfound likening to heavier conditions. He did so by winning the totesport Dante Stakes by about eight lengths.
