Ballarat fluoridation backed by Mayor

Ballarat Mayor Judy Verlin has thrown her support behind the fluoridation of the city’s water supply.
The Department of Health will add fluoride to the water supply from November 16.

Lower Darling River contaminated

An outbreak of toxic blue-green algae has been confirmed in the Lower Darling River placing the area around Burtundy on a red level alert for algae.
The algae can cause gastroenteritis and skin and eye irritations and the water is unsuitable for recreation or domestic use and may also pose a threat to livestock.

Exploration of geothermal wells permit granted

Over the next five years $18 million will be spent by an exploration company trying to find geothermal water wells in western Victoria.

Figures revised for water allocations

Water allocation projections have been revised by the South Australian Government this year.
In the last July forecast, there was an even chance that allocations would rise to 52 per cent by the end of November.
That has now been changed to an even chance of a 28 per cent allocation.

Water allocations 2008-2009

The first water allocations for 2008 to 2009 have been announced for the Murray and Murrumbidgee valleys.

VIC government schools to audit water use

The Victorian Government is making it mandatory for all government schools to audit their water use in an attempt to reduce unnecessary water usage and encourage efficient water use habits.
Roughly 400 schools have voluntarily taken part in the schools water efficiency program and on average, they have cut their water use by 13 per cent.

Desalination plant road closed due to protest

“Cut Consumption”

Victoria’s biggest water and energy users will be required to come up with a plan to cut their consumption.
